I’ve been in Doha for more than three years and I have never been to a restaurant that serves good Mexican cuisine until I tried Pampano.
Pampano was mainly started in New York by Chef Richard Sandoval. It’s an internationally known high-end dining establishment which serves traditional coastal Mexican cuisine with a modern twist.
I was just invited by a friend to try it and who am I to say no to food? 🙂
My companion and I opted to have our seat inside since it was really cold outside. The place looked luxurious with their white and beige interiors which automatically gave this relaxing and calm vibe. The lights and furnishings used made the surroundings chic and sophisticated. Staff greeted us upon entering and led us to our desired seat.
Our server that night was Maureen, credits to her since she was really accommodating and she took her time to explain the menu. I ordered one of their best sellers which is the Pomegranate Guacamole as our appetizer and Mariscada for my main. I gave it a try and never regretted that I did. The guacamole was perfect! Avocados were ripe as well as the pomegranate and the chunks of strawberries mixed in it. It was served with a modest amount of tortilla chips. It blended well with the tomatoes and onion. Creamy enough as a dip for the chips. It was a fantastic mixture of ingredients.
The seafood dish called Mariscada comprised of shrimps, mussels, calamari and scallops served with coriander rice and achiote coconut sauce. When I saw it, I did not even want to touch the dish, but once I had my first bite, I literally didn’t want to stop. It was rich in flavor. The seafood was fresh and matched the rice well.
My friend had a fair share of Shellfish Salad. Again, it was very well presented. It was a mix of scallops, shrimps, calamari, spinach and argula in balsamic dressing and lemon vinaigrette. In short, it was a bit sour. I’m not a fan of sour food but I had to try it.
If you get to see their menu, every meal has their suggested drinks. So we decided to follow their suggestions and had Toro Negro for the salad and Apacionado for the Mariscada. The Toro Negro was a mix of blackberries, basil, lychee, tamarind and Redbull while the Apacionado has the mix of sprite, lychee, raspberries, passion fruit and mint. I can say both were refreshing.
All in all, I’ll give my Pampano experience a (5 / 5). No wonder it’s an award-winning resto! Service was fast, staff were courteous and attentive, food was amazingly good, the place was spotless and not to forget the background music was not that irritating even if it was in Spanish. It’s great for special occasions or simply an ordinary day dining. I highly suggest you visit Pampano during Thursdays and Fridays since they have a live band performance from 7pm-11pm that would make your night dining experience entertaining.
