The backdrop for the sixth day of our tour was the magnificent Pamukkale and the resort town Kusadasi of Turkey. We started off by making a stop at our first destination in Pamukkale which was the ancient city Hierapolis that houses a very extensive necropolis. According to our very informative tour guide, people used to bring their sick family members to Hierapolis for medical treatment and if they pass away they are brought to the necropolis for burial. Also within the city is “The Theatre” which was used as an auditorium. The main sight we didn’t want to miss out on was the “Calcium Cliffs” of Pamukkale. We were taken away by the remarkable pools of white calcium and the panoramic views before our eyes while walking barefoot at the terraces.
Day 6 – May 20
Aphrodisias, a small ancient city named after the Greek goddess of love Aphrodite was our second destination. The site is well preserved hence the beauty of the ruins immediately captivated us. It looked like we were inside a picture of a postcard. Since we’re both single we wanted to make a wish to the goddess to bring us our happily forever afters (but that case is more so for me than Allyson, hahaha) 😉 .
The last stop for the day was the beach front hotel we had at Kusadasi. We had an overnight stay at the Faustina Hotel (included in the tour package) and our room had a great view of the sunset plus the beach. It was truly breathtaking that we felt very lucky to witness it.
