It’s been a week since we last posted an article and we’re very sorry that the blog has been idle, given that it’s still the holiday and lazing around is the best thing to do (errr..at least for me).
Moving on, a friend asked me out a few days back to try Megu, a modern Japanese restaurant situated at the Pearl. Actually she’s been requesting for quite some time now and I finally gave in. Not that I was constrained to do it. Haha!
Upon stepping out the elevator, a welcome awaits at the reception area alongside a mini bar. It is quite spacious and you’ll hardly ignore the enormous structured arc window where you can have a magnificent sight of the harbor.
Megu is a sophisticated but casual restaurant on two floors. The modern furnishings are classy and light toned which gives a cozy ambiance. Despite the fact that they have a huge pendant light as their centerpiece, the place is still dim.
Let’s talk about the food. We opted to try their Ramadan Set Menu which costs QR150. To start off, I got myself Crispy “Kanzuri” Shrimp with Spicy Cream Sauce which is flavorful. A beautifully presented sizzling Grilled Angus Sirloin Steak was served next. It was medium done as requested but insipid for my taste. For my sweet ending, I tried their frosty homemade ice cream.
My friend had Akadashi Red Miso Soup for appetizer, a plate of sushi rolls (Crunchy Unagi and Garlic, Crab & Avocado, and Spicy & Crispy Shrimp) with salmon sashimi for her main and the Yuzu Crème Brûlée for dessert. I tasted the sushi and liked the Crab and Avocado the most, the rest was okay. The star of the night was Megu’s sublime Crème Brûlée. I have to admit, it was my friend’s but I literally ate almost everything.
Before leaving, we had to use the restroom. I know I should not talk about WC’s in here but I just wanted to share how modernized it was. Everything was automatic and I became an ignorant for a few seconds. Haha! Embarassing!
My nosy self didn’t stop exploring the place and I’ve noticed that they have outdoor seating so my curiosity lead me to check it out. I could’ve chosen to dine on the patio where we could really have a good view of the marina but the weather was absurdly hot and the humidity is adding up, I can’t even stand the heat for a couple more minutes. I took a very quick photo instead so just you can see what I’m talking about.
I’ll be honest and straight about my conclusion. I give them a (4 / 5). I had a look on their a la carte menu and I can say that they are expensive. Wonderful place, service was stellar as well as the food presentation, however, the taste was average. It didn’t quite live up to my expectations but you know what they say, there’s always a room for improvement.
