What’s on the Table? – Paloma

Do you have one of those days where you just want to unwind after a long day at work? I (Karen) had a very excruciating day last Monday and just felt the need for some down time. Of course, who else would I ask to come along with me to wallow? Allyson, right? (shocker, I know…haha).

By now our loyal readers would not be surprised to know that we are real foodies though it might be relatively new to find out that we are not the biggest fans of Tex-Mex cuisine. We’ve heard and read some reviews about Paloma at the Intercontinental Doha where we used to always go during the weekends for drinks but we have never tried their food so we decided to sample their meals that same day.

We arrived pretty early for happy hour  from 5 – 8PM and all drinks were 50% off (which I was truly ecstatic about because I needed some wine in my system at that time). The only down side was the day we went since it was like a library due to the peaceful setting. Truly different from what we were used to on the weekends.

We ordered Merlot to start the fun and asked our server to provide us with Shrimp Fajitas plus another dish (which we totally forgot the name of) that had sea bass, calamari, shrimps, pasta with a small serving of rice, guacamole & mashed beans on the side for our main courses. Along with the wine came a plate of complimentary bread and spread.IMG_0039

Without any preconceived notions about the food based on the online reviews we’ve seen, it is our truthful opinion that Paloma’s food was quite average which didn’t entirely excite our palates. The prices were steep and we didn’t feel that the food’s quality in addition to its taste lived up to it. We unfortunately didn’t get our money’s worth which is sad. The set-up of the place is rustic due to the dark wooden chairs and tables used plus there was a little hint of Mexican flair. Staff were attentive; service was relatively quick therefore an overall score of (3.5 / 5) is what we’ll give this outlet. The only item we loved from what we ordered was the serving of GUACAMOLE! That was truly divine! 🙂
