24th of November 2015 is one of those nights that I will not forget. Not just because it was my birthday but it was also the night where a bunch of food bloggers in Qatar gathered to enjoy good food and each other’s company.
Unfortunately, Karen had some priorities at that time so I had to be on my own. 🙁
Anyway, the event was held at Aceite, a Spanish signature restaurant located at the newly opened Melia Doha. Never have I visited the place so I was not really sure of what to expect.
As I entered the place, it was already quite crowded. I recognized some familiar faces and some whom I just knew because of their blogs but haven’t met in person yet. The new bloggers I’ve encountered were Nats (Lemon and Mint), Layla (Macaron and High Heels) and Polly (Follow Your Sunshine). It was also fun to see Doaa, Hala, Ines, Lou-Ann, Kevin, Kim, Khansa, and Kiren once again. Socializing was great but the tapas arranged on the middle table were too appetizing to ignore! Sangrias were served as well.
Another thing that caught my attention was the live band that serenaded us with a mix of old and new spanish tracks.
We were then led to a long table and comfortably sat wherever we wanted to.
Before serving the food, Doaa of Hungry Birds Doha gave the opening remarks. She then introduced the next speakers, Hala, who gave quick details about Zomato and Kevin who promoted his mobile application, Messo. To complete the set of speakers, a representative and a chef of Melia briefed us with essential facts about the food and restaurant.
(Dowload ZOMATO and MESSO on your mobile phones for FREE! Unfortunately, Messo is only available for Iphone users at the meantime.)
And now the part we’ve all been waiting for…FOOD! My favorites would be the Black Ink Paella, Sauteed Prawns with Garlic and Torrijas.
We were shuffled twice by the host and made us sit beside someone whom we didn’t know yet. I personally think, it was a great idea in order to get engaged with more people aside from the ones you’re already familiar with. The first bloggers I sat along with were Gayathri of My Pressure Cooker and Shahmim of Qatar Eating. These ladies were very warm and friendly that I didn’t have a hard time connecting with them. We had small talks and shared some basics about our blogs. For the next reposition, I had the chance to sit with the cool and humble Rachel of Qatar Eats. I guess I just did not get to know some bloggers but also won some friends.
Before the night ended, prizes were given away from draw lots and there was a question and answer segment. Not everybody got a prize but everyone got to take home a goodie bag from Melia and Zomato. Aside from the goodie bag, I was given a lunch voucher for two at the said restaurant as a present for my birthday which made me feel really special.
It was indeed a succesful event! A big shout out to Doaa for organizing this lovely evening and of course her partners – Melia Doha, Zomato and Messo. Last but not the least, I would like to give credit to the staff of Melia Doha Hotel for the excellent service and ensuring that we enjoyed our night.
