Want to escape to somewhere exotic, like say the Maldives, but don’t have enough cash?? Well you can always check out the next best thing which is conveniently situated in the country, Banana Island Resort.
We wanted to start our New Year right and with a bang so the both of us with our families planned a short getaway from the city hence we decided to have lunch at Banana Island’s Azraq outlet two weeks ago (2nd January 2016) since it was our first time to go there.
To get to the island, you will need to book a table in advance and take a yacht at their port located along the Corniche after the Museum of Islamic Art. So I (Karen) did exactly that, I booked our table and I was informed by the telephone operator that the price for the lunch buffet per person would be QAR 270.00 which is inclusive of beverages and the yacht fee. When we got to the port, I spoke to one of the ladies at the concierge who then checked our reservation plus handed us our boarding passes. We had to wait approximately 30 minutes to board the yacht which we didn’t mind at all since the waiting area they had was really posh.
Funny thing is when we boarded the yacht, we actually didn’t feel like we were in a yacht because the interiors pretty much looked like an airplane hence we felt like we were being flown into paradise.
Upon arriving at the island, we were immediately blown away by the scenery that was before us. The resort was huge and instantly captivated us. We didn’t know where the outlet was so we were thankful that there were a few staff present that received the guests and assisted everyone to where they needed to go to. We were given directions on how to reach the outlet which didn’t take us a long time to find.
We were surprised to see that the Sushi station of Azraq was situated exactly near the outlet’s entrance. This made us even more excited to head inside and take a look plus sample out all the food they had laid out that day. Definitely none of us were disappointed at all because our expectations were met! Azraq had a massive selection of food to choose from; they had a salad bar, live cooking pasta station, kid’s section, desserts, beverage station and a barbecue station which was located outside of the main dining area.
Wanna know our verdict? A perfect score of (5 / 5) without a doubt! Though you might be hesitant to shell out the money, it is worth a try at least even for a single time. We did get our money’s worth because everyone left with a full tummy. We didn’t even bother having dinner afterwards which is evidence that we filled ourselves up. The food was divine (I, Karen, especially liked the salads and sushi) and it’s a bit sad that we were not able to try out everything. Staff were awesome as well and they were accommodating too. Only downside is that they left the doors to the main dining area open since the barbecue station was situated outside which made it possible for a few flies to make their way inside the outlet. Besides this point, the entire dining experience we had was remarkable and we highly recommend you book your table soon. Of course we could not leave the island without snapping a few photos so here’s some for your viewing pleasure! 🙂
