I am such a sucker for seafood that when Shangri-la Hotel’s Yabby restaurant opened its doors, I had to definitely check it out! My family and I went last week to the outlet and I couldn’t wait to take delight in their food selections for the business lunch they offered. Business lunch is a great way to expose yourself to a new outlet without dropping a fortune afterwards since prices are relatively low.
The interiors had some elements of the sea / ocean with the outlet painted in a vibrant blue hue and an aquarium installed on one side of the wall. It was truly relaxing plus the dimmed lighting put us in a very comfortable state. The hostess, Ileana, had a gleaming smile and was real charming plus she seated us at our table instantly.
A 2-course meal is priced at QAR 85.00 / pax and a 3-course meal will set you back QAR 95.00 / pax (drinks excluded). We availed the 3-course meal and in case you are interested, Yabby offers an ala carte menu plus they serve alcoholic drinks as well. 😉
Let’s move forward with our orders; for appetizers we had the Crunchy Fried Calamari, Nicoise Salad & lastly the Fish Sausage. Main courses we tried were the Roasted Chicken Breast, Classic Lamb Stew and the Prawns Hamburger. They only had 3 choices for the desserts hence we decided to take one of each in order to sample everything.
We were served complimentary bread with seaweed butter while we waited for our food orders to arrive.
We loved the service the staff provided and kudos to our servers Cao & Rahul who were both cheerful plus helpful but honestly it breaks my heart to rate this outlet a (4 / 5) although I truly wish I could award them a perfect 5 out of 5 stars. You might be curious why such a semi average scorecard if I wanted to give them a 5. Our overall dining experience was almost excellent except for one incident that happened and I have to be transparent with you guys since we always want to provide you with our unbiased feedback due to the fact that we do not want to take the trust you have given us for granted. The food was remarkable, superb and the flavors were rich and new but while my mom was enjoying her last bite of the roasted chicken breast she ordered, she had to spit out the chicken because there was a long strand of hair on it. We immediately brought it to the attention of our server Cao who in turn notified her supervisor, Gian. Gian didn’t waste his time and directly approached us to profusely apologize about the incident. I liked the manner of how he handled the complaint since he did not make any excuses for it and informed us that he would investigate the matter. He was truly quick witted and offered my mom another complimentary main course to make up for it but my mom was already full so she declined. He did mention that his kitchen staff had hair nets on and are all male with short hair hence he was surprised that he received such a complaint plus the hair was inside the chicken meat and my mom has really short hair so we have no idea where the hair came from.
If not for this incident, I would highly recommend this outlet to everyone but I am a little hesitant as you can imagine. It is up to you now to decide if you want to check it out or not.
