What’s on the Table? – The French Olive

Not really a newcomer to Doha, The French Olive, has been satisfying its patrons by serving culinary masterpieces using fresh ingredients since October 2014.

I have heard so many good feedback about the outlet for a long time but only decided to drop them a visit recently in order to discover what they have to offer by availing their business lunch set menu.

They actually have 3 types of set menus to choose from for the business lunch option (which is available from Sunday to Friday, 12NN to 4PM). The first being the Silver option that costs QAR 50/person (1 starter + 1 main), then the Gold option priced at QAR 70/person (1 starter + 1 main + 1 drink) and the last option is the Diamond which goes for QAR 85/person (1 starter + 1 main + 1 dessert + 1 drink + 1 coffee).

I went with my family not too long ago and upon entering the outlet, I was immediately mesmerized by the well-thought-out interior design. The French Olive was brightly lit and the color scheme throughout the outlet was striking plus rich. It was spacious and pristine which was definitely alluring to the eye.

My family and I availed the Diamond option for lunch and with such numerous selections on the menu to choose from, we had a bit of a difficult time settling on what to order.

Truthfully, I feel that the outlet missed the mark on their starters. The croutons in the Cauliflower salad were hard to bite on; same goes for the bread used for the Bruschetta. The 3 pieces of Arancini tasted similar to each other though it did pack some flavor.

Main courses were decent but the best among the 3 dishes that we ordered were the Mini Burgers. Small in size but delicious enough that anyone would want to order seconds. The patty was cooked well and the fries plus salad on the side added texture to the meal. Pasta Salad with Tuna was too creamy and left my mom as they say in our language “umay” (which doesn’t have a direct English translation but means she simply felt tired of eating it and didn’t want to eat more). Again, the bread used on the Fish Tartine dish was too hard to chew but the fish itself was alright although it didn’t have much flavor.

For desserts, customers can select from their pastry display. Despite the starters and main courses’ failure to “wow” us, the desserts were a whole different story and in my opinion this was where the outlet hit its mark! Everything we chose was utterly luscious and with just the right amount of sweetness.

I would rate the outlet a 3.5 Stars (3.5 / 5) for the reasons stated above but I must praise the excellent service provided and the warm hospitality displayed throughout our stay with them.
