Two weeks ago, Allyson and I checked in at the City Centre Rotana (CCR) which officially opened its doors to welcome residents and travelers alike during the first quarter of this year. Since Eid al-Adha is here plus most are on a short holiday from work already, we thought this would be a great chance to recommend a hotel for your staycation in case you’re not traveling overseas.
After experiencing quite a remarkable stay at Oryx Rotana (read about that HERE) we had the same expectations for our stay at CCR. Needless to say, we were impressed! It seems the chain of hotels managed by Rotana have a standard they stick by & adhere to when it comes to guest service and satisfaction.
I’ve accumulated quite a number of photos during our stay hence this post will be split into two where the next post will feature the two outlets we ate at whilst we were there and this post will touch base on our room, hotel’s facilities and the service we received.
When I reached the hotel the valet staff were busy assisting guests with their cars but despite that I was immediately attended to and was helped with my luggage. The lobby made my jaw drop as I went directly to the front desk counter to check in for the stay where I was greeted with a pleasant smile from Sumit. He gave me our key cards, directed me to the elevators and carried my luggage too (he made such a great first impression!).
Since the lobby was quite awe-inspiring (trust us, the photos don’t do it any justice), I was expecting the same for the room but with all honesty I was a little indifferent about our classic twin room. Though spacious for two people to share plus with such a remarkable view of the Corniche and the iconic Sheraton hotel, I was expecting a much more striking or colorful interior but that’s not the hotel’s fault. The interiors were quite simple and the color palette a bit muted for my liking but the cleanliness / orderliness of the room in addition to the stocked up mini bar sure made up for it! 🙂
Aside from the mini bar, the room also has a safe, iron and ironing board stored in the closet, a desk (especially useful for business travelers), a mini seating area and a bathroom where the shower and tub are combined together. The winning aspect of the bathroom is the huge vanity area / mirror (Allyson and I didn’t need to fight over it). By the way, Wi-Fi is available throughout the hotel and we didn’t face any connectivity issues.
We weren’t really able to make use of the hotel’s facilities but they have an outdoor pool, Jacuzzi, sauna, steam room, gym and much more. We actually wanted to try out the spa but our laziness got the better of us so we skipped on the massage.
The CCR is connected to the City Centre mall which is great because you have access to a grocery store in case you need anything and stores for some shopping if you want plus food outlets if you find the hotel’s restaurants pricey.
CCR is quite accommodating for allowing us a late check-out of until 4PM which was spent in our comfy robes while lounging in our room.
Checking out of the hotel was a breeze, we didn’t encounter any problems at all. Our stay at this hotel was comfortable, laid back and we did have a good night’s sleep. Staff were truly attentive from the valet, reception, housekeeping (who came to check if we required any toiletries / coffee / water) & the restaurant staff. They made us feel like we were regular guests at the hotel and that the hotel was our home away from home. Based on such a superb service executed by the warm & friendly staff of City Centre Rotana, we have no choice but to rate it a (5 / 5) which they rightfully deserve! Definitely service trumps the expectations I had for our room.
